As with his predecessor, Mr Boyden was in post at the School for a relatively short time before leaving for a similar position elsewhere. He too apparently found the continuing influence of C. J. Blackburn too great.

Mr Boyden made his mark with his scholarly dignity and calm, unhurried leadership.
